Happy Sunday!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

But for some the holidays can be a reminder of limitations, loss, or lack. The holidays remind them of what could have been or what they no longer have. That is when we can truly touch a life unexpectantly! Later today we will be going from home to home to bring Christmas cheer to those who can no longer leave their homes… Yes, it’s Christmas Caroling time!!!

After I attended my first caroling at the age of 19 and said, “YES!” to this tradition, I started organizing this event each year since. To say this is a special time for me, is totally understating the feeling I have about it. Let me explain so that you can feel what I am feeling.

Let’s imagine that you have been gone all day and your dog has been locked up in the laundry room the entire day. You finally arrive home and open the door of the laundry room… Can you imagine the anticipation of that dog when it hears the garage or front door and ultimately the laundry room door open? You would see the dog’s tail wagging, jumping up and down, while proclaiming joyful barks! Can you imagine? Well, I am the dog in this scenario!!!

Yes, this tradition is one that requires much of my time and the time of all who volunteer to share this gift. But it is nothing compared to the tail wagging, jumping up and down, and joyful faces we see looking back at us from the people who said “YES!” to being caroled and receive this gift. (Believe it or not, some people reject my offer for us to come and sing to them.)

This is so true in life… When we say, “YES!” to service, God blesses all according to our willingness to serve. When we say, “NO,” we miss out on the blessing and God finds someone else who will say “YES,” to bless!

Where are you in resistance, denial, or unwilling to serve or volunteer? Where are you missing out on the call to bring joy to others? Please take the time today and discover where you can be of help in a big or small way in your community.

This picture was taken as we sang our last song in 2018. This would be Bonnie’s last Christmas, but the love & joy on her face and in that room, are still in my heart! In that moment, no one was sick, no one was sad and we were all one!

May you always seek out ways to be of service to others… When you give, you receive 100-fold! You can never outgive God! Give it a try and see.
