Life is full of choices. When life hands us lemons, we can either let them make us bitter, or we can turn them into something amazing—like a healthy, gluten free, lemon meringue pie! You are always in choice… what will you choose?
100% Responsibility
Everything that happens in life is perfect—even when it doesn’t seem that way. Every challenge holds a purpose, a lesson, and an opportunity for growth. The key is to look back, not to place blame, but to learn and evolve. When I face difficulties, taking responsibility always helps me move forward.
Four Questions to Take 100% Responsibility
If you want to transform challenges into growth opportunities, start by asking yourself these four powerful questions:
1. How did I create this situation? (This is NOT about blame, shame, or guilt… it’s about facts, awareness, and learning.)
2. What did I learn, and what are the gifts and lessons? (Every experience carries a blessing, but we must be willing to look for it.)
3. What will be different moving forward? (Once you understand how you created the situation and the lessons within it—what changes will you make?)
4. How will I use this experience to help others? (True growth happens when we share our wisdom and help others on their journey.)
Life is full of choices. When life hands us lemons, we can either let them make us bitter, or we can turn them into something amazing—like a healthy, gluten free, lemon meringue pie! You are always in choice… what will you choose?
My Story: From “Victim” to 100% Responsibility
A few years ago, I was recruited by a company offering nearly double my salary and an incredible commission structure. Even though I liked my current job, the money seemed too good to pass up. I took the offer.
As I was signing my contract, I noticed a clause where the company could let me go for no cause. I asked about the clause, and they replied, “have you ever been let go?” To that I replied, “never.” They said, “Then, don’t worry about it.” I signed the contract!
At first, everything seemed great. The company trained me, and I was excited to prove myself. But I quickly realized their sales cycle took over three months, something they never disclosed. At 1.5 months into my employment, they began pressuring me for client information, and I complied by creating weekly logs.
Then, on my 89th day, they said how wonderful a job I had done but they decided to terminate the position. They invoked a 90-day “out clause” in my contract, meaning they could terminate me “without cause.” They also reminded me of my non-compete agreement, blocking me from working with competitors for 2 years. I was in complete shock but if honest, there was a part of me that felt relieved.
At first, I was angry. I couldn’t believe they had done this to me! That was my victim story. But when I took responsibility, everything changed.
How I Took Responsibility:
How did I create this situation? I failed to research the company thoroughly. I didn’t ask enough questions about the contract’s “out clause” or non-compete. Worse, I ignored my gut. I had sensed something was off but let the money blind me.
What did I learn? Never sign a contract or non-compete, without fully understanding it. Always research a company before accepting an offer. The gifts? I gained valuable connections, proved my resilience, and discovered my talent for quickly building relationships.
What will be different moving forward? I no longer sign non-compete agreements and now do extensive research before making professional commitments. Most importantly, I trust my intuition!
How did I use this experience to help others? Instead of staying stuck in resentment, I launched my own business. Within three hours of being fired, I had my first client. By the end of the day, I had another! Now, I serve my clients on my own terms, helping them without corporate limitations.
That painful experience pushed me toward entrepreneurship… something I never thought I wanted. Today, I have the freedom to make my own choices, and best of all… I love my boss!
